Who is using AI? โ† back to the map

Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 4, 2026

Who is using AI? is a for-fun, aggregated world map of where AI-coding tools are popular, built and run by PIXIPACE. This page explains, plainly, what happens to data when you use it.

The short version: no accounts, no personal details, and no profile of you. Almost everything runs in your own browser.

Your approximate location

When the map loads, it centers on your city. To do that, your browser asks a third-party service (ipwho.is, with geojs.io as a backup) for a rough, city-level estimate of your location from your IP address. This:

You can stop this anytime by blocking those requests or clearing your browser storage.

City search

When you search a city, your browser looks up its location from a public geocoder (Photon / OpenStreetMap) and an approximate developer count from GitHub's public search. These requests go directly from your browser to those services; we don't log your searches on our servers.

What's stored in your browser

We keep a few small things in your browser's local storage only โ€” never on our servers:

You can clear all of it anytime through your browser settings.

Third-party services

The map relies on these providers, each with its own privacy policy:

Analytics & cookies

We measure aggregate traffic โ€” page views, rough region, and where visits come from โ€” using Google Analytics in a cookieless mode. It does not set analytics or advertising cookies, does not follow you across other sites, and builds no personal profile of you. Because no tracking cookies are set, there's no cookie banner to click through.

The numbers on the map

City figures are aggregated, public estimates (e.g. public GitHub developer counts and public search-interest trends) โ€” a playful proxy, not a headcount of individuals, and they contain no personal data. We are not affiliated with any of the companies or tools named.

Children

This site isn't directed at children under 13.

Changes

We may update this policy; the date at the top will change when we do.
